A police officer escaped unscathed when a patrol auto he was driving burst into flames in the vicinity of the entrance of Hong Kong’s Japanese Harbour Tunnel on Friday.

The officer was driving the car or truck back to law enforcement headquarters in Wan Chai from the Kowloon Bay motor vehicle plant of the Electrical and Mechanical Products and services Division when it caught hearth soon ahead of 11am.

A police supply claimed the malfunctioning car or truck experienced been sent to the Kowloon Bay plant for inspection and repairs just two times earlier.

But in close proximity to the toll plaza of Eastern Harbour Tunnel in Lam Tin, the vehicle engine began emitting smoke and quickly burst into flames, he explained. The driver, attached to the Hong Kong Island crisis unit, was unharmed.

No weapons or tools were being stored in the car.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Expert services Department stated three fire engines and an ambulance ended up deployed and firefighters took about 15 minutes to douse the flames.

No casualties have been reported and original investigation located nothing at all suspicious. The automobile was badly damaged in the incident.

A section of Lei Yue Mun Highway heading towards the tunnel was closed to targeted visitors due to the incident. The lane was reopened before 12.30pm, explained a supply in the Transportation Department.
